Las Doce is a new range of wooden tableware from young Chilean design company The Andes House, exhibited at Design Junction during the London Design Festival. Each bowl, plate and cup is carved from a single piece of wood by Mapuche artisans in Chile, using traditional carving techniques. The exterior is carved by hand, and the centre is cut out by a CNC industrial cutting machine.
The product range showcases the special characteristics of two distinctly different woodworking processes.
The Andes House, and their product design brand MadeinMIMBRE have a track record in creating innovative products utilising the traditional craft skills of Chilean artisans. This summer, I wrote about them in my guest blog post for Decorex.
The London Design Festival runs until 23 September.
