Kukuben Indigo Cushion, Navy and Sky Blue

from 100.00

Our Kukuben cushion covers are made from organic, hand woven kala cotton, dyed with natural indigo, and hand embroidered with lines of traditional Kutchi stitches to give a clean, modern look.

Kala cotton, or old world cotton, as it is sometimes known, is an ancient species of drought resistant cotton which has been grown in Kutch since 3000 BC.  The growers do not use pesticides or synthetic fertilisers, and it is watered only by rainfall.  The fabrics it produces are soft but durable.

We buy our kala fabrics from an initiative in Kutch dedicated to the continued production of this ancient cotton, and the preservation of local artisan weaving traditions.  Sometimes, there are small irregularities in the weave which are part of the natural charm of this handmade product.

The embroidery stitches are typical of the remote Kutch region of India, handed down through generations of women.  The delicate embroidery is expertly carried out by one of our home-based artisans in Gujarat, India using English crewel wool.

Available with our without a duck feather-filled cushion pad (for reduced carriage costs, we suggest purchasing without the pad).  Concealed zip closure on reverse.
