Desi Dark Earth Cushion

from 93.00

Our Desi Handwoven Wool cushion covers are woven from local, "desi", wool on traditional pit looms in Kutch, Gujarat, an area famed for its weaving.

The weavers who create this wool cloth are part of a group of highly skilled weavers in Kutch, who have been encouraged by a local master weaver to stay in their villages and pursue their traditional craft.   By being paid a fair price for their work, many have chosen to stay and weave, rather than leave the area and their families for work in the cities.

For a real insight into the work of the weavers, you can read more about them in this article on Border and Fall here.

Desi wool has a distinctive "dry" texture, typical of wool from this area.  The wool yarn is left in its natural state, un-dyed.  Because the desi wool is hand spun, the cloth has a wonderfully irregular texture, full of movement.

White hand woven wool on reverse, with hidden zip closure.

Supplied with our without a duck feather-filled cushion pad (for reduced carriage costs, we suggest purchasing without the pad).

Complementary throws in the same wool available, 170 x 260cm.

Available to order in three sizes:

40 x 40cm (16" x 16")

60 x 40cm (24" x 16")

60 x 60cm (24" x 24")
